I Got a Feeling ... Woo Hooo

The Black Eye Peas' "I Got a Feeling" is stuck in my head which is actually quite perfect. It's the ideal happy-woo-hoo-smiley-life-is-good song. And friends, life is good. I've finished work, leaving a clean and tidy desk and have eleven glorious, wonderful and if I do say so myself, well-deserved days off work. Woo hoo!

To kick start the festivities, I've put up my bunting. After pondering, umming, ahhing and one precarious moment of having three quarters of my body leaning out of the window, I decided to display my bunting on the INSIDE. (Note to self, buy a large ladder for future celebatory events).

It's my small nod to my adopted country. A way of saying I'm happy to be here and celebrating St George's Day (which also happens to be my birthday!) and marking the Royal Wedding.

Here's to a really amazing Easter for us all. I hope there are countless moments that make you smile.

A Royal Knees Up

A Royal Birthday?! Woop Woop. Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II, is 85 years young today ... and looks good on it.

Does this mean a day off? Or we can enjoy a tipple to toast Her Majesty? Double pay if we're at work? No?! Never mind.

Wishing you a wonderful birthday from a very patriotic member of the Commonwealth!

Work, Weight, Hot and Tired

I'm writing this in my house-sized sauna. The heating is *still* stuck on high and I am remembering in great detail, Aussie summers! I cannot wait for the plumber to arrive next week and relieve me from this 40 degree hell!

The question this week has been to work late or not? With job losses and the recession, I think everyone, everywhere, now does whatever it takes to make sure they hold onto employment. And with mortgages and families to support, rightly so. But I also think companies are taking advantage of this and keep pushing for more from their employees. They need to get more for less. But even in these worrying times, I am sticking to my new year's resolution not to work above my designated hours. For two years, I worked 55-60 hours a week (instead of my 36) and I felt like my life was only work and sleep repeated again and again. What I have realised this year is that everyone is replaceable (even if you work double!) and you don't get thought better of for working harder. So with my "new" hours, I am finding there is balance in my life, I am happier, less tired and my bosses actually respond more positively to me (who knew?!) The purpose of our lives is to be happy and I think all companies everywhere, have to remember that we are all doing our best but ultimately, we work to live.... really live. We don't live to work.

It may be a quiet Sunday out there but for me this morning, it was (dum dum duuuum) The Moment of Truth. It was my second weigh-in for Weight Watchers. Last week I lost 2kgs (4.5lbs) and was over the moon (celebrating by buying more OPI nailpolishes). Although I've stuck to my points this week, I was nervous. Not only had we celebrated Shrove Tuesday (pancakes!), my Aunt's Birthday down at the pub and enjoyed a lovely Chinese on Friday, Mum had bought me some lovely new digital / electronic scales. What if my old crappy ones were so antiquated that although it would show my correct weight, it would show me heavier than I thought ....

With heavy heart (excuse the pun), I got on the scales and I had lost another 2kgs (4.5lbs). Woop woop! Yeah me! I also go down a point now so I have fewer points to eat. Am well chuffed with this achievement.

Off to sit in front of the fan until I wake up properly and attack the day with gusto.

(BTW the word for the day on Dictionary.com is "aver" .... to assert as true! You learn something new every day)

Introducing Millie Grace

My cousin Steven and girlfriend Helen, had their first baby - a beautiful girl - on Friday 3rd July (at 1.12pm). A beautiful baby girl called Millie Grace. She was 7 pounds 4 ounces and she's just precious.

I know I am biased but I think she's adorable and such a good-natured baby. Here are some photos that I took of her today (aged 2 days old).

My "new" PJ pants

Not the most flattering picture and Lord knows what I am doing with my feet (LOL) but my Mum and Dad got me Elvis PJ pants as part of my birthday (back in April) and I love them. I already had Graceland PJ pants which I bought at Graceland but these are sooooooo my favourite!

Ohhh goodie!

A group of friends (who call themselves The McLovelies) sent me a £40 Amazon.co.uk Gift Voucher for my birthday (coming up on Thursday). We do "group" gifts for everyone (despite McLovelies living in USA, Canada, Belgium and England). I was thrilled with this gift - as Amazon.co.uk is one of my favourite stores and I loved being able to go through my Amazon Wish List choosing goodies I've wanted for some time.

I picked two DVDs ("The Duchess" (of which I am reading the book now) and "Inkheart") and three books ("The Earth Hums in B Flat", "Black Rock" and "The Watchers"). As a friend arrives next Saturday from America, I choose the supersaver delivery so these goodies should arrive by May 1st (when I return from dropping her off in Belgium) so I'll have lots of goodies to enjoy on that long weekend (when I'm knackered from racing around the country like a contestant on The Amazing Race and sad to say bye to her as she embarks on her next leg).

Happy Australia Day / Happy Birthday

Tomorrow (January 26) is Australia Day.

Australia Day is the official national day of Australia and commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788 (marking the British colonisation of Aussie). It's a public holiday every year. Since I can't be there, I'm going to eat one of my all time favourite biscuits - Tim Tams - (which is Australian of course) to celebrate!
January 26th is also Marleen's Birthday. Hip Hip Hoorah! Wishing you a fantastic birthday chick!
